The Ethics and Laws of Income Taxes
By Dylan Royse
In the United States its very important to pay your income taxes. If a person fails to pay their income taxes they can face heavy fines and possibly prison time.
There are federal, state, city, and county taxes. Federal income taxes are managed by the Internal Revenue Service. States have their own tax agency. City and county taxes are usually managed by the treasurer of the county or city.
Every year a person is required to report their income to the Internal Revenue Service. Some of their income is taxed. If a person fails to pay their income taxes on time, they can face up to a twenty five percent penalty fee depending on how late the payment is. If a person fails to pay their income taxes or lie about their income, they can be fined up to one hundred thousand dollars plus court costs and up to five years in prison.
There are many people who want to abolish income taxes. They believe it’s a violation of their individual rights and liberty. They believe that income is earned by the individual and that the government doesn’t deserve any of it. They also believe its being wasted by the government on things they perceive to be useless to society. There are also many people who support income taxes. They support raising income taxes for the wealthy. They also believe paying income taxes is important for many services and benefits of our society even if it means giving up some freedoms in the process.
In conclusion, paying your income taxes is important even if you oppose them. I believe that we should lower income taxes for working people while also finding ways to continue funding public services that people rely heavily upon. I don’t think abolishing income taxes will solve anything.
